Powers and Abilities: Sgt. Estrella's body has been transformed from flesh and blood to an opaque, super dense, organic crystalline substance. The ebon crystal that now makes up her body is capable of withstanding impacts of incredible force; up to and including armor piercing rounds and mortar shells. Obelisk retains her previous mobility and agility while being almost invulnerable and in her new form she is capable of lifting incredible amounts of weight (between 50 and 70 tons). Sgt. Estrella's change also includes her physical size, as she grew from 5'8" to a height of 6'9" tall. Obelisk's body is virtually tireless as her muscles no longer produces fatigue poisons and she no longer needs water or food.
Obelisk is excellent marksman and hand to hand combatant, having being trained as a police officer and as a Special Forces operator who has experienced combat against some of the most ruthless drug cartels in the world.
Brief Personal History: Sgt. Gabriella Estrella's father was a good cop in a Mexican police district rife with drug cartels and corruption. Eventually his staunch devotion to law and order ended in tragedy and Gabriella witnessed her entire family's execution at the hands of cartel enforcers. She was only eight years old. This terrible event would steer the young girl's life in a singular direction.
Consumed with the pursuit of justice, Gabriella followed her father's footsteps into law enforcement. She first became a Federale (a member of the Mexican Federal Police) but when faced with overwhelming corruption within that organization, she joined the Mexican Armed Forces and became a member of the Grupo Aeromóvil de Fuerzas Especiales (Special Forces Airmobile Group). Gabriella thrived as a member of Grupo Aeromóvil, relishing the opportunity to strike at criminals like the ones who'd taken her family from her. After disobeying a direct order and leading her unit past her nation's border in pursuit of a cartel leader, she was reassigned to T.A.S.K.'s International Joint Security Operations Group (IJSOG); a group comprised of military and law enforcement personnel from all over the world.
From the very moment Sgt. Estrella arrived for IJSOG training she worked tirelessly to surpass the efforts of her fellow trainees but came up wanting in any exercises that emphasized the need for teamwork. Once her training was over she was deployed as part of an expeditionary force sent to the moon to investigate an energy anomaly. The anomaly was in fact an inter-dimensional breach, which transported the vanguard of an extra-dimensional army to the moon's surface; an event that later became known as the Foretold Lunar Incursion.
Sgt. Estrella fought bravely but was mauled by one of the breach's creatures. Eventually her unit's commanding officer, Lt. Col. Christina Lellios (a.k.a. Centurion), saved the surviving members of the team and managed an extraction to Earth. While on the Earth bound shuttle, Gabriella began to exhibit startling physical changes. Her size and density dramatically increased (she went from 5'8" to 6'9" in minutes) and her body took on a dark crystalline composition.
While under observation at T.A.S.K. headquarters, Kraken informed Sgt. Estrella that as a result of the introduction of mutagenic alien DNA to her body, her flesh had transformed to extremely dense, obsidian like material - which granted her vast superhuman strength and durability. Surprisingly, Sgt. Estrella was ecstatic at her transformation. She codenamed herself Obelisk and all but demanded to be recruited by T.A.S.K. Today, Obelisk is not only a member of T.A.S.K., but the Mexican military's greatest weapon in its ongoing war against the drug cartels and their newest threat ... superhuman enforcers.
Obelisk, Centurion, Nightfire and Whisper often refer to themselves as "The Foretold" in honor of the USS Foretold, the shuttle that Centurion piloted to bring them back to Earth.
