Poetry: A Lost Piece

I’m working on a fairly big project with my wife, and it required me to take a trip down memory lane through files more than a decade old, or more. Some of the memories might be best forgotten, truth be told — betrayals I’ve chosen to ignore in order to keep the peace, opportunities that ended up fruitless, and so on. Some, however, cracked me up.

This is a poem I wrote in June of 2003. That was an interesting time … anyway, here goes …

Evanescent moment
between locked eyes and locked lips
where everything is possible,
romance is Schroedinger’s cat
and all the wars and tears of all the world
mean nothing compared to us
here
now

Writing: Stranger Comics Debuts Fantasy Novella by Hannibal Tabu March 19, 2014

I am very, very pleased to report that on March 19, 2014, Stranger Comics will be releasing Waso: Will To Power, Episode 1, a fantasy novella set in the fictional world of Asunda written by myself and featuring a cover illustration by Hyoung Taek Nam.

Waso: Will To Power

Following in the footsteps of the comic series Dusu: Path of the Ancient by Sebastian A. Jones, Christopher Garner and James Cory Webster, the impetuous son of the chief is forced to take the reins of controlling the tribe after the dramatic events in the Dusu series. The book follows his struggle to help rebuild the tribe in the face of enormous odds in a tale set against the lush junglescape of Asunda’s untamed Ugoma region.

As a writer, it was a wonderful challenge workong inside the fictional framework of Asunda’s rich culture, with its striking linguistic differences and exotic flora and fauna (some of which I got to help create). Working with my editor Josh Cozine and Asunda’s creator Sebastian Jones has been a delight, a thorough education in world building and narrative experimentation.

Waso: Will To Power is a novella divided into six parts (most of which is already written) and will be released at the middle of each month for an affordable price of … wait, what? This can’t be right. Let’s read that again …

… nope, that’s correct. The first of six installments will be FREE, and will be available through online resources like Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I hope you’ll check it out and I hope you enjoy it! I’ll have flyers to promote it next week at 6PM when I’m signing copies of Artifacts #35 at Hi De Ho Comics in Santa Monica.

Watching (Netflix): House of Cards, Season 2 Episode 3

Free Agency: Back On The Market (Professionally Speaking)

Posted in 104, business on February 5th, 2014 by Hannibal Tabu

As of Monday, I will officially be back on the open market after five and a half years with a major integrated managed care organization (MIMCO).

I learned a lot during my time with MIMCO, made some great friends and have no regrets that my time there has come to a close. I’m excited to move forward with new opportunities and new accomplishments.

What am I available to do? I’m glad you asked — I’ll list from lowest to highest level of committment.

  • FREELANCE WRITING AND EDITING: Blurbs to articles, marketing to journalism, comic books to prose fiction, retail to internal communications.
  • DJ/KARAOKE HOSTING: The largest events I’ve done were concert venues, the smallest were private parties in a home. Ready to deliver good times.
  • WEB PRODUCTION: From wireframes to final deployments, I’ve ushered more websites from concept to execution than I can remember. Small accounts and large.
  • LONG TERM PROJECT/PRODUCT MANAGEMENT: When you need someone to make sure the trains run on time, that things keep going right after you did it the first time.

I can do a number of other things, but I normally stay focused on these areas.

Feel free to contact me with any opportunities or inquiries.
